Q. What does propane smell like?
A. Propane doesn’t have a natural scent. Producers add an odorant to make it recognizable in the event of a leak. People describe this odor as sulfurous, like rotten eggs or spoiled meat.
Q. What should I do if I smell gas?
A. If you smell propane, there could be a leak. Immediately get everyone away from the affected area. On your way out, don’t use light switches, cell phones, or other electronics that can cause a spark. Also, be sure to extinguish any candles, cigarettes or other flames. Once you’re away from the leak, call 911 and the Brideau Energy team to assess the issue and make repairs.
Q. Will a propane leak contaminate my water or soil?
A. No. Propane is nontoxic, so even if it leaks into the ground your soil and water quality will be unaffected!
We’re always available to answer your propane safety questions!
