There’s a lot of buzz around the electrification movement. It’s the push for homes to rely fully on electric equipment. But there are disadvantages to an electric-powered home. Before you jump on the electrification bandwagon, let’s take a look at some of the ways electricity falls short of what propane can do.
There are a number of reasons to choose a home powered by propane. Here are a few things to consider when comparing a home that uses propane to one that only uses electricity:
We’ve already seen it this summer. Power outages are happening with increasing regularity across the country. The US electric grid is flawed and can’t be relied on 100% of the time, especially after an extreme weather event. If a massive storm leaves your New England neighborhood in the dark, you won’t want to be dependent on electricity.
You want to have a source of heat and power that you can depend on every day of the year—no matter what. Propane gives you that reliability. Also, propane space heaters are significantly more efficient than electric space heaters.
In short, there are numerous advantages to a home powered by propane. Furthermore, electricity has its drawbacks. Because most of our country’s electricity is generated by coal-burning power plants, electricity is America’s second-largest source of greenhouse gases. Only transportation ranks higher.
